Pupview : Pete’s Dragon
Pete’s Dragon was the first ever film I saw at the cinema with my mum back in 1977. I was 4 years old, and she was heavily pregnant with my brother, and although I don’t remember a lot of about the actual film experience (I was only 4 after all!) I did re-watch it several times as a kid, and always felt it was one of my favourite films and a bit of a technical marvel at the time, as it was one of the very first mixed animation/live action films.
The re-release of it was a prime opportunity for me to offer to return the favour and this time take my mum to see the remake of the film. Its not a pure remake in the sense that it follows the plotlines and jokes of the original, but the basic premise of the fact there is a Pete, and he has a Dragon is how they’ve made the film with the latest CGI techniques.
I don’t wanna spoil it, but all pups should go and enjoy watching this. The Dragon has so many pup-like characteristics that I think he actually wants to be a puppy himself in the film! They’ve made him furry for a start, but the facial expressions, and his demeanour are all brilliantly portrayed throughout the film. Just make sure, like me, you don’t watch it in a dusty cinema as at times my eyes started to water a bit at all the dust that must have been about…
